Little snippet that I want to record...
FB: where does friend 'R' go after school.
Me: to R's home.
FB : where does friend J go after school
Me : to J's home
FB: Where does friend 'S' go after school ?
Me: to 'S' home.
FB : Where does another 'S' go to ? ..
question first stumped me and then I burst out laughing..
S are a set of identical twin boys attending preschool with the FB. Their names sound similar too hence FB assumed that there are 2 S's in school with him.
They are currently FB's best pals. They live quite close to the school and their mom walks them to school. FB is always asks whether he can walk back with them to their home after school!
He (FB) also called me by my first name for the longest time. started calling me amma only a few months after the second one was born. loved it when he used to call me by name. I cant believe I do not have a recording of it . ( i.e him calling me by my name). It was such a every day occurrence that I did not bother to and he switched out of it overnight!

Duck Rabbit
Since most of the blogworld or the part that I read do not divulge their kids names, I need to think of way of addressing the kids on this blog. Lack of creativity brought up these ideas
1. first born(fb) and second born ( sb)
2. Kid 1 and Kid 2
3. Anna and Thambi
4. ...thats it no more ideas. I like the first option for now so lets stick to that.
So the first born started school..preschool this September. A chance conversation with a friend revealed a preschool possibility in the public school where the kid will be kindergartner. I was thrilled beyond words. why ?
The first born has had a lot adjustments to do. ( I know every kid of working parents do but it is still difficult to see your own go through it). The following have been his "day care" options since his mom returned to work after the pichathu maternity leave we get here.
1) 2 mo - 6 mo - patti and thatha @ home.
2) 6 mo - 11 mo - After registered him with a leading "chain" day care center, realized that my 6 mo old had "vethu mugam" and does not want to be entertained by his american care takers. Thankfully find an Indian house wife with some day care exp to take care of the kid. he was the only kid she was taking care of and in hindsight worked great because we did not have to deal with "day care" illnesses.
3) 12 mo - 19 mo After the mandatory India trip realized that the said lady now wants to work in a boutique, hence find a home day care option. This run again by an Indian worked well, until the said lady wanted to take vacation for a month. she gave us other options for the month which did not work ...so..
4) 20 - 26 mo thatha and patti come to the rescue.
5) 26 months -- start day care again only to be beset with one health problem after another..forcing another trip from patti alone.
6) 29 mo- 34 mo patti @ home.
7) 34 - 36 mo day care again. which was painful for him and us.
8) 3 years - 31/2 years - thatha and patti are here to help with my second delivery, hence no day care. Considering the child's deep hate for school did not want to send him to one after the grandparent leave.
Keeping aside my deepest fears, we hired a nanny to come home to take care of both kids . So far we have been ok and the arrangement is working fine. We are now on nanny #2 since or first had to leave due to her pregnancy.
I was mortally petrified about his first day @ preschool. Kept talking to him about it so that he would be prepared and the only answer I got was that he does not want to go to school. dunno what happened ..either 1 0r 2 or all of the below happened..
1) he is 4 , is grown up and is getting independent.
2) he is bored silly @ home and craves company
3) realized on the open day that the preschool has a whole set of new toys he could play with.
He walked without looking back on his first day and it seems to be a smooth sail so far. also helps that school is only 21/2 hrs long and he comes home for lunch .
Anyway..what was I talking about ? oh yeah preschool...I was thrilled because this would mean easy transition from preschool to kindergarten. For a kid whose had quite a bit of adjusting to do (still better when compared to some of his peers) this would mean one easy transition...
And why was I talking about preschool..because I had to introduce the title to you...Duck Rabbit..( s ve sekhar solra mathri title'a post la oru vaati yavathu solanum).

Highly recommended by first born for anyone in the 3-5 year age group. The story is about two friends(?) fighting whether the said animal is a duck or a rabbit.
Other favorite books so far
1. A Very hungry caterpillar
2. Chicka Chicka Boom Boom
After some 3+ years of myriad day care options the last 1/2 year has finally been rewarding.
I hope he enjoys school and reading as much (and more ) as he enjoys today.

Long time no see
Dear blog,
Even though I have been blog-hopping like crazy , I have neglected you. I came back to see what I had written and the first thing that struck me was that I had missed a lot of milestones especially with the kids...yes kid(s). Theres been an addition to the family and the little one now is almost 18 months..and my last update of the older guy was @ 15 months.
So much has transpired between then and now. I HOPE to maintain this blog at least as a scrapbook of memories that I can look back some day.
So what happened between Jan 2008 and Dec 2010
1 new kid (another boy) + 1 new school + 1 new home + 2 nannies + ...and some more which seems overwhelming to list in a single line.
So let me figure out a way to update you more often and even though new years is still 15 days away , here's my resolution..to chronicle the boys childhood through you...
To a new beginning and another month, year and decade!
